Campaigning to keep markets open and support traders and operators

Here are two ways to support the markets sector through an incredibly difficult period...

Sign the petition:

In response to the announcement of a second period of lockdown, industry bodies NMTF and NABMA have launched an urgent campaign for markets to remain fully open, and to have parity with supermarkets in terms of essential and non essential goods for sale. Whilst multinationals and large online retailers continue to reap the benefits of restricted trade, loss of sales in the lead up to the festive season will be a devastating blow for traders and independent businesses already suffering the impact of Covid-19. Please sign the petition on Change.org to demand that our traditional markets, the original 'super markets' which offer so much more to communities than their chain-store equivalants are given a level playing field.

Complete the survey:

The NMTF is also asking market, street, and events traders how they are affected by coronavirus restrictions. Their survey is open to all market, street, and events traders in the UK – you do not need to be a member of the NMTF to take part. It can be accessed here: https://www.nmtf.co.uk/coronavirus/surveys/recovery/. Submissions close on Sunday, 22 November 2020.

The results of the survey will be published on the NMTF’s website – www.nmtf.co.uk.
